Drug Uses
Cardizem is used for the treatment of rhythm disturbances of the heart like supraventricular tachycardia, atrial fibrillation and flutter. It may also be used for other conditions as prescribed by your doctor.
Usage
Use as directed by your doctor.
Missed Dose
You should try and take your doses on time taking care not to miss any. But if you do miss a dose, then you may take it as soon as you remember taking care to space out the remaining doses accordingly. You may also choose to skip it and continue with your regular dose. But do not take a double dose.
Storage
Store it at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Cardizem out of the reach of children.
Overdose
Some of the typical symptoms of a Cardizem overdose include confusion, shortness of breath especially while lying down, drowsiness, fainting and slow heart rate. Seek medical attention immediately if you suspect an overdose.
More Information
The drug may cause light-headedness, dizziness, and faintness in some people. Do not consume alcohol along with the drug. Do not drive or handle heavy machinery until you know how to react to the drug. Use with caution if you have congestive heart failure or suffer from kidney or liver disease.
Warnings/Precautions
Before taking this drug, tell your doctor if you have: heart problems, liver disease, lung disease, allergies. Limit intake of alcohol while taking this drug. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug is excreted into breast milk. If there is no alternative to using this drug you should discontinue breast-feeding. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Possible Side Effects
This drug may cause dizziness and lightheadedness especially during the first few days. Avoid activities, requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down for a while, get up slowly to allow your body to adjust and minimize dizziness. You may also experience bloating, heartburn, muscle cramps, headache, flushing, nasal congestion, sore throat, constipation or diarrhea. Inform your doctor if they become bothersome. Notify your doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling of the hands or feet, an irregular heartbeat. If you notice other effects, not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
